I'm a little late posting this blog for February, but they cheated me out of two days, so I feel emboldened in my procrastination. The month's playlist is tight, tho, so I hope you give it a listen.
February began with a long weekend in Memphis, where I was introduced to Earnestine and Hazel's, the finest two story dive bar I've ever encountered. Not to mention spending all my time with Molly, the finest best friend I've ever encountered. Getting the fuck out of Cleveland and into the arms of my queen was good for my soul. I even got a new tattoo in celebration of getting out.
"If you need a hero
Just look in the mirror
No one's gonna save you now
So you better save yourself"
-Kali Uchis, After the Storm
February ended with a whirlwind trip to NYC and back via two overnight Greyhound buses alongside Abby, a real champ of the wild life. I was able to see The Permanent Revolution, a band fronted by another eternally Best Friend, Luke. I've been listening to him write music since we were 15, and finally I've heard it performed live and not without the antics of fake blood, crawling on the crowd, and dropping a flip phone in a strangers' beer. Popular Drug made me cry.
I really have been having a hell of a time, filling every moment with fun. But a good friend hit me with the damn truth recently; "You need to learn how to be alone."
